Karine Yu, D.O. is a physician in physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) (also called “physiatry”).
Dr. Yu grew up in Metro Detroit. She has always had a passion for anatomy and the medical field. She graduated from University of Michigan summa cum laude with a degree in movement science. She also spent time working in a physical therapy clinic and volunteering at hospitals prior to medical school. She obtained her medical degree at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She then did her internship at St. John Providence and completed her residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Michigan State University/Sparrow Hospital.
During residency, she was trained in rehabilitation of musculoskeletal and spine issues, neurological conditions, EMG nerve testing, sports medicine, stroke, spinal cord injuries, and other debilitating conditions.
During her time in residency, she was a chief resident. She was an appointed clinical faculty member at Michigan State College of Osteopathic Medicine. She also spent time in medical school volunteering at the Special Olympics. She believes in comprehensive treatment of the body and helping patients reach a quality of life they desire.
In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Her hobbies include traveling, interior decorating and ice skating.
